Early on, I painted primarily in watercolor and gouache on French cold press paper. I like to collect (friends help) uniquely interesting frames I can refurbish and paint to compliment whatever artwork I have in mind.
My watercolor paintings are representational but seldom traditional. They are as vividly colorful as I can make them and generally small in size. I call them my "nook & cranny" paintings since they appeal to owners of cozy cottages with limited wall space. They're often hung in groupings or tucked into a tiny alcove where a pop of color is needed, yet nothing else will fit!
These compact paintings are also popular with Cape Cod visitors looking for an inexpensive gift or momento to easily fit inside their suitcase for the trip home. I still paint a few from time to time and try my best to satisfy the occasional request for a cottage or pet portrait. I've gathered a mixed collection below. Enjoy! -- JS
